Ceremony Add-Ons or Traditions~
The Unity Candle
This tradition symbolizes the pledge of unity between
the bride and groom and the merging of two families.
Traditionally, there are three candles,
though we can use as many as you want.
Generally the mothers or someone of the couples choosing
light two of the tapers before taking their seats.
When the bride and groom light the center candle around the
middle to end of the ceremony, I will say something special.
The candles keep burning until the ceremony is over,
to symbolize that their individuality is not extinguished,
though they are united in marriage.
Sand Ceremony
The Sand Ceremony is similar to the Unity Candle ceremony.
Each partner has a vial of sand which represents their life before marriage.
During the ceremony, each partner pours their sand into a larger vial
to represent their new status as a married couple.
This is often used for blending families,
with each child having their own color of sand
to layer with the couples colored sand.
It is beautiful to see the different colors
and how the layers are created.
Handfasting:
This type of wedding vow includes the binding of the couple’s hands
with some sort of cord, thus the term “hand fastening.”
It is noteworthy that the term “to tie the knot”
comes from the handfasting ceremony.
A special cord or ribbons are wrapped around the couples hands.
I recite a significant poem/saying or the couple can speak words
of love and commitment to each other, while I wrap the cord.
When you both pull the cord it turns into a unity knot.
~These a few of the options of special traditions that can be added.
We can absolutely create something new or tweak an existing tradition.
We can find traditions that apply to your heritage
or something a family member used in their wedding.
The ideas are endless!

“Today we have come together to witness the joining of these two lives. They met each other, fell in love and are finalizing it with this wedding. A good marriage must be created. It is remembering to say I love you every day. It is not just marrying the right person it is also being the right partner. It is knowing you are never too old to hold hands.”
Please say after me-
I, Sam take you Sara to be my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our friendship and love you today, tomorrow, and forever. I promise to love, honor, cherish and protect you, forsaking all others and holding only unto you.
Please say after me-
I, Sara take you Sam to be my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our friendship and love you today, tomorrow, and forever. I promise to love, honor, cherish and protect you, forsaking all others and holding only unto you.
“Wedding rings are an unbroken circle of love, signifying to all the union of this couple in marriage.
Place the ring on her finger and say"-
Sara, This ring is my sacred gift, with my promise that I will always love you, cherish you and honor you all the days of my life. And with this ring, I thee wed.
"Place the ring on his finger and say"-
Sam, This ring is my sacred gift, with my promise that I will always love you, cherish you and honor you all the days of my life. And with this ring, I thee wed.
"I now pronounce you Mr. & Mrs. Bruce.
You may kiss each other!
I present to you our happy couple!”

Friends, welcome to Michael and Heather's wedding.
They are so appreciative of your willingness to be here,
coming.... as many of you have from great distances.
They are also profoundly moved by your expressed
and sometimes unspoken support of them
as they embark on this new adventure together.
Love is a miraculous gift and a wedding is a celebration of that magic.
We are gathered together with delight for Michael and Heather,
who are so sublimely suited to one another.
As friends, as parents and as soul mates.
When we think of love.. we sometimes talk about people who deserve one another.
Michael and Heather deserve each other
and their marriage was inevitable.
They are the embodiment of true romance,
which matured, becomes true love.
Marriage is the joining of two lives,
the union of two human beings
who have separate families and histories.
Two individuals...each of whom has a unique and life shaping past,
willing to choose to set aside a solitary exploration of themselves
to discover who they are in the presence of one another.
In these two lives...these two individuals... there is the one that came from this love- Maddie.
They are, with their precious daughter, as a family the promise of possibility...the expectation of blissful surprise.
So I say to you both in marrying,
you promise to love not only as you feel right now,
but also as you intend.
In your marriage remember to say “I love you today, ”
and also “I promise to love you tomorrow, the next day and always ”. Promise to exercise your love,
to stretch it out large enough
to embrace the unforseen realities of the future.
Promise to learn to love beyond the level of your instincts and inclinations, to love in foul weather as well as good,
in hard times as well as when you are in the delight of your love.
Your wedding is a truly happy occasion
and your marriage will have many textures.
You will intend one thing and end up doing another.
You will imagine your mate to be a certain way
and discover that he is not... or that she is a person unto herself.
You will have clashes
and discover things you did
and did not want to know.
You may say mean, hurtful words
and for love be able to forgive them.
Above all.. remember that love is what matters.
Love will prevail.
It is the love you will feel for one another today that will help you get through your challenges.
Let love be stronger than any conflicts that may come
and be bigger than the differences you may have.
Let love be the miracle always inviting you to learn,
to blossom and to expand.
And it is to love you must return-
this love you celebrate
this love you embody
this love you radiate
this love you honor today.
When times are trying for you...keep these words with you...
Now you will feel no rain,
for each you will be shelter to the other
Now you feel no cold,
for each of you will be warmth to the other
Now there is no loneliness,
for each of you is companion to the other
You are two persons
but there is one life before you and one home
Turn together to look at the road you traveled to reach this.
...the hour of your happiness.
It stretches behind you into the past.
Look to the future that lies ahead
a long and winding, adventure filled road
whose every turn means discovery.
new hopes.. new joys.. new laughter
and a few shared tears.
May happiness be your companion
May beauty surround you both in the journey ahead
and through all the years to come..
May your days be good and long upon the earth,
your adventure has just begun
Michael take Heathers right hand and repeat after me
Heather I choose you to be my wife
I promise to love you in good times and bad
when life seems easy and when it seems hard
when our love is simple and when it is an effort
I promise to cherish you and to always hold you in highest regard
these things I give to you today and all of the days of our life
Heather take Michaels right hand and repeat after me
Michael I choose you to be my husband
I promise to love you in good times and bad
when life seems easy and when it seems hard
when our love is simple and when it is an effort
I promise to cherish you and to always hold you in highest regard
these things I give to you today and all of the days of our life
now for the exchanging of rings
We often talk about the wedding bands
being a perfect circle, with no beginning and no end.
These rings do have a beginning.
Rock is dug up from the earth.
Metal is liquified, then molded, cooled and painstakingly polished. Something beautiful is made from the simple elements.
Love is like that.
The process of creating something magical
from something as simple as a look or a smile
Heather please repeat after me
Michael, this ring is a symbol
of the strength and beauty of our love
may it belong to your hand
as my heart belongs to you
separate yet close,
simple yet miraculous
